Weekly Update July 10th to 16th

Well only one more week then the schools break up for the summer in the UK.  Hopefully the weather will still be OK for the 6 weeks.  We have a plan for a weeks camping  with friends during the summer plus some time spent with my folks down in Cornwall by the sea, all of which are vastly improved  by sunshine.

Books Finished This week.

I have been having a finishing up books I have been reading for ages kind of week.

The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Non-fiction by Neil Gaiman

An interesting collection of speeches, introductions and other non-fiction writings Neil Gaiman has done over the years. The best of which is inspiring and uplifting but the introductions are interesting if you know who he is talking about, but otherwise not so much.

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

This has been a book that has taken me a month to read, obviously with other books on the side, but I have enjoyed every minute.

Daring to Drive: A Saudi Woman’s Awakening by Manal al-Sharif

This account which is mainly memoir but part history was a gripping account of one highly educated woman’s fight for a tiny shred of equality in one of the most misogynistic states in the world.

Currently Reading

Die Trying  by Lee Child (Jack Reacher no 2) –

Almost comfort reading as I started the first chapter of so many books and couldn’t get into them.  That is the beauty of book series, you start off already knowing one character.  He has been kidnapped along with a young female FBI agent

Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson

This has to go back to the library on Wednesday so this will be the last week with this book.  It is often hilarious and at times quite moving.  Very silly throughout, this book airs subjects that until recently where taboo.

Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith by Shaun Hume

This is still Eva’s bedtime story, and I recieved an updated version from the author complete with a lovely new cover.

I am still reading Amy Schumer’s The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo but I haven’t read much of that this week.

Blogger Appreciation

I have completely stolen this idea from Dani over at Perspectives of a Writer personally I am hoping that she will turn this into a meme.

Lynne at Fictionophile

Has been suffering with plagiarism and she has been inspired to write about it. It is certainly not new within the blogging community, but here’s what you can do about it.

May at Forverer and Everly

Has given us a wonderful discussion post all about book reviews and do you trust them, including a discussion on goodreads ratings and the plague of the Trolls.  Head over and join the conversation.
